SKY TV question
Discussion
Hi guys&gals,
I've had sky for a 3 years, now out of warranty & I'm having problems with it.
sky want to charge me £65 to send someone out.
I can get a free sky install if I cancel & take out a new contract in my gf's name (and then get a new box etc) however, sky say I cant do this because we've previously had sky in our household.
anyone done it anyway? any repurcussions ?

You could call their bluff and say you're going to cancel your subscription, they might send someone out.
It would cost em more to lose your subs over the years.
I told them that they had had £600 a year from me and would continue to do so, so why couldn't I get the cheap Sky+. I also said that other service providers looked attractive as a result.
Their reply was along the lines of lots of news customers = more customer revenue = more investment in quality programs. Also, when I joined - I would have received a discount on the cost of the Sky box... irrespective of the fact that I would have rather had the Sky+ subsidised and paid more for the original one - IYSWIM.

I'm moving out soon, so my dad phoned them and said they'd need a new installation as I'd be taking my equipment with me. They said fine and an engineer will be sent round to install their new equipment. They are fully aware the house already has a dish etc. Just say you're moving our and get a new load of equipment in your girlfriend's name

Offically Sky ARE correct with this previously had one already bit...but they would rather they keep you as a subscriber than not....threatening to cancel your subscription, saying that you cannot afford the cost of a new reciever, usually prompts them into a 'deal', where they will replace your reciever with a 'refurbished' one, for about £50ish, IIRC, which includes someone coming round to plug it in!
The problem with just changing the name and applying for a new system, falls flat on its face, at the point you have to connect the box to the telephone line....you would probably have the same number Sky had for that the original receiver was connected to!...and possibly the payments via the same bank account....be prepared for Sky to refuse you on these grounds!
Just to second the others. I rang and said I was going to cancel as I was unhappy at new customers getting Sky + for £99, funnily enough they were only too helpful, I was not even on one of the top packages.
If you say you are going to cancel you are put onto a 'turnaround' team who's job it is to get you to stay, they have more power to do this kind of stuff.

Podie...give me a call...have your box/card, need to make arrangements...thought you were coming to 'meet' on Sunday....
Was hoping too, but there was too much alcohol intake to make driving an option until well into the following afternoon!
