Blunkett to run transport?

According to the Evening Standard, if Loober get back into power, Shagger Blunkett may end up as transport secretary Given the mess that the transport infrastructure of this country is in, isn't someone missing the irony of putting a blind man in charge of it?

He knows all about transport.

Well, he knows how to get a free train ticket for his bit on the side.

Blunkett is one of the best Labour ministers (which is not saying much)-he had a good stint at the home office (working under the constraint on not being able to build many more prisons)-he would probably be as good or better than many of them as transport secretary.

He seems to be a pragmatist so hopefully he will go with what works.

Why on earth can't we ever have someone who drives in charge of transport? a limited outlook and a complete lack of knowledge when it comes to cars is what's ruining the way our transport system is run.

From what I've seen Blunkett is a control freak who sincerely believes he knows so much better than the general population and that the only way to ensure a 'better society' is through draconian legislation and mass surveillance.

If he ends up in charge of transport, expect heavy handed application of speed cameras, charge zones and traffic restriction.

I agree that he's probably one of the more effective ministers - which makes his politics that much more chilling.

I don't think ANY of the Labour transport ministers could drive. Certainly that cretin Byers couldn't; what a tit.

Blunkett seems a pretty down to earth bloke and speaks his mind, which is a rare thing. If you want to write to him, use braille - seriously! It gets straight through to him and not a menial.

When Barbara Cartland was Minister of Transport in the 1970's she could not drive a car.
