Anybody know of any good software for quickly arranging charts?

I need to be able to knock up a few drum charts in next to no time at all. Preferably for free.

Anybody got any ideas on what's good and what's not?

Cubase , Reason, Logic, Sonar all have drum programming grids, but cost several £'00s

Computer Music magazine has a lot of freeware synths and programming utilities on thier DVD each month.

Are you looking to trigger samples with MIDI or work with predefined loops?

Perhaps something like Magix or DJ software might suit?

I'm not interested in sequencing or soft synths anything like that - Literally just a quick way of documenting grooves and fills that I come up with whilst playing.

I'd like to have something quick and easy to use (not fiddly like Cubase and other MIDI sequencers which have always been notoriously sh*te for drum notation) sat right next to the kit so if I think up something seriously cool, I can draw it up in a matter of seconds.

If you're just looking for a way to document them, why not knock something up in publisher, run off a few copies, and leave them by the kit?

You could rig up a minidisc and just record the bits as you invent them...

Im afraid Im not nearly technical enough to write out my beats/fills, I find it much easier to remember by ear if you know what i mean!!!
