Who has a job which gives a result?
Discussion
I'm just thinking as I arrange someone's contract for them that my job is really a bit of a non-job. I mean it's essential and required, but at the end of the day, if someone asked what I've done today I find it difficult to explain.
I've made a load of phone calls, sent and received a load of emails, changed a few lines in a couple of databases and hey presto - job done, other people are happy etc but I haven't really done anything.
Don't get me wrong I like my job and am really looking forward to my new job, but do many other people have jobs where they are busy every day and yet don't actually really ever produce anything that they can look at in the evening and say - "Yup, a good day's graft that"?
What an odd thing working can be!

I'm a research scientist so at the end of the day i tend to have results to look at. Whether those results are worth anything is another matter. Most of my data will never be used and that data that is used will end up lost in the scientific literature. What is nice is to observe a tiny detail in how a cell works and know that you are proabably the first person to ever make that observation or connection. Couldn't do an admin job because of the treadmill qualities...... unless they paid be an enormous amount

At least you're aware you aren't producing anything, except perhaps money for yourself at the end of the month ?
I find amazing the number of people who find satisfaction by earning money by merely manipulating virtual datas. In the end they don't produce anything as they're dealing with things that are physically non existent, yet they seem to be absolutely essential nowadays. Productivity is not anymore what it used to be, eh ...

I type 1, then 2, then 3 etc etc and see how far I can get before 5.30.

I normally achieve around 6000. It was 18,000 before I found pistonheads.
My real job is slightly less dull and has the glorious result of reducing the government's income
- I reduce business rates.

- I reduce business rates. I teach one day a week. Lecturing can be very rewarding when you see students achieve things that they never imagined possible, whether it be going onto higher education or establishing a career as a photographer.
I used to work in advertising, so I would like to think that my adverts helped the client to sell their products.
As a digital photographer, you could say that I get an instant result
