Sharing your secrets on PH

A PHer said earlier today, something to the effect of "Sharing intimate details is best done with family, not strangers on the internet"

We've had some fairly bare all threads here too havnt we. Suicide and depression, broken relationships etc. I say its all good stuff

IME it's easier to type your problems into an anonymous little box to a massive community of diverse people than turn to friends who might know you too well, and family who don't understand you at the best of times and seem to be talking through a 30-year rose-tinted timewarp.

That was the guy who recorded all those anonymous confessions, including rapes and murders, wasn't it? Interesting stuff - is there a book on it?

He left cards in phone boxes with a number saying it was an answering machine.

It operated for over a decade and people confessed to all sorts of things. There are numerous websites that attempt the same thing but this chap became part of NYC folklore.

I dont think it was ever discovered who ran it or what happened to the tapes...

I'll have a poke around because I would be interested in the full story so to speak.

I've always found the advice here to be excellent and very helpful. I've also found the people here to be warmer and more sympathetic than those I work with day to day.

That would be me then. If it were me, it would be more friends than family. Also I said, "don't share sensitive info with stranglers on the internet"

It's horses for courses.... Sometimes an anonymous opinion is good. If it's personal, I prefer to keep the identities safe, but many heads can often help you make sense of things.

I've know benefitted from the sage that is the PH font of knowledge from time to time. Mind you, it's usually along the lines of "am I being an asshole about this or that"

I think the anonymity allows people to express their true opinions and god knows, there are enough of them on here

Charlie likes Vinyl Veras - apparently they are the only thing to go down regularly.
