I think basically it had something to do with this:

and just grew due to the fact it is a friendly informative web-site.

I used to work in IT and thought that I should get up to speed with web technology so started experimenting in my spare time.
Around about the same time I bought the TVR S and wanted to get all the info I could so spent many a lunch hour on the web looking for car stuff.
I came to realise that there was scope for an online magazine doing everything that traditional mags did, but on the web at relatively little expense (old PC, a smattering of web knowledge and a bit of hosting space). My own desire to read non-work related material at work convinced me that there was a market there.
I set up the site as a hobby but at the back of my mind kept thinking "what if..."
The job went pear shaped around about the same time as the site was starting to attract a little sponsorship so I thought I'd take a few months out to see what I could do with it. If it didn't work out then I'd jump back into the IT world (job market was bouyant at the time). Needless to say a lot of people thought I was mad and looked in a rather pitying manner at me... "stupid boy"
Trouble is, it's difficult to admit defeat and it took me two years to make it enough of a business to pay me enough to live on. I almost ventured back into IT work at one pointbut that fell through (good thing in hindsight).
Since then it's gone from strength to strength thanks to a loyal and ever growing bunch of enthusiastic readers
