Trying to install a curtain pole.

Any tips on how to drill into/through a mantle?

Depends on if it's steel or concrete..... If it's steel, you may need to change the bit half way through for a steel one and turn the hammer off, otherwise, loads of hammer action. Might pay you to make a smaller pilot hole first if it's hard going.

Yes, & if concrete, hammer action & drill several times with bigger bits each time (tungsten tipped)

If the plaster is sound, draw round that part of the curtain pole bracket that fits flush to the wall.

Using a knife/scraper remove the paint/paper fom the areas you have drawn and lightly 'score' the surface of the plaster. Stick up the curtain pole brackets with 'No more nails' or some similar grab adhesive.

Job done - No mess, no noise no blunt drill bits!

And the 1st time he draws the curtains, the whole lot will come down.

Glue, as everyone knows, doesnt work And neither do plasterboard fixings. Best bet is to get a decent masonry drill, drill up into the lintel, then use a decent long but slim expansion screw/bolt.

Why would you want a curtain pole on your mantle, do you meen lintel?

I was wondering about that as well. Why would he want to put curtains on his fireplace?

you may find it hard going using just a normal hammer drill into a concrete lintel. best thing to use is an SDS drill, then just plug the holes with normal brown rawlpugs and a no.10 x 2 1/2" screw
