We already are colonising space, albeit in a very modest way.
In the future the human race will divide into two species - those who stayed behind on earth and those who ventured out into space.
It's inevitable.

Oh it works alright, and it's available for hire. Unfortunately it's currently in Jupiter orbit so not available for 3 years. First million miles included in price; collision damage waiver compulsory.
The current record is just over 1 year. I'm sure that the two year mark will be passed before too long - especially once serious planning for a Mars trip gets underway.
However, as I said earlier, in the future there will be different species if humans, depending on the gravitational environment in which they've grown up.

Spaceflight is a akin to flying in a wafer thin glass container packed with explosives through an endless cloud of cyanide.
Without faster than light travel it's going to be very very tricky.
And when you get there?
What do edible things look like?
What do predators look like?
Are the natives friendly?
Should we be armed?
Should we scout openly or in total secrecy, i.e. in stealth mode?
When we get to Mars I'll be curious about Oleasian (Face and pyramids).

Travelling in the Inner Solar System is frought with danger, mainly from the intense radiation generated by solar flares. Once out beyond the asteroid belt, the risk from solar flares reduces although there is always cosmic radiation coming in from deep space and the intense radiation belts of some of the giant outer planets, particularly Jupiter. However, with proper shielding, a human crew should be able to survive these different radiation hazards.
I would think the main problem would be coping with the length of the voyages to the outer planets. A trip to Jupiter or its moons would take at least 3 to 5 years depending on the positions of the earth and Jupiter at the time of launch. And then there would be a similar length return journey. I would not think that there too many people who are willing to sacrifice more than a decade of their life to one mission (including training) with most of that in virtual isolation from the rest of humanity.
