So who is not bothering to vote

Well, how much can change in a matter of a couple of weeks. If you had asked me a before then I would have agreed and not bothered. But a massive campaign locally by the Lib Dem's has put my constituency on the marginal list...!!!

So, I will be voting to ensure that Lib Dem's DONT get the local seat. I dont like their tactics and I dont like their taxation schemes.... so it will be either Lab or Cons - neither matter as its a tactical vote to prevent the swing from Cons to Lib Dem (Lab is so far down in third that its incredibly unlikely they would get anywhere!).

Saying that, the local Lab candidate is an old heffer so she aint getting my vote...!!

Combination of working away from home and the local council morons responding to my application for a postal vote with another blank application for a postal vote means I probably will not be able to vote unless I take a day off work and drive a 350 mile round trip.

Can't help wondering if they knew I was unlikely to vote for them when I told the local lab candidate there was no way a life long socialist could ever vote for someone so spineless as to not stand up for their own principles. Got a laugh and round of applause from the others being questioned in the street, who unfortunately may now think I'm a socialist. Which I'm not, I just fancied stirring things a little..

I'll be spoiling my ballot. They are all a complete shower and none of them deserve my vote! I have spolit my ballots at the last three elections, pretty depressing really...

Voter apathy comes from people feeling that there is no one to vote for! I'll spoil my vote as at least I have voted in a sense but many people just won't bother and I don't blame them. All the parties are just shades of grey and people tend to vote for the best of a bad bunch rather than voting positively. I think there should be a 'none of the above' option, the only problem is that would win hands done!!!

Couldnt agree more, but given that the political process is now dominated by a bunch of whinging two-faced pocket-lining morons, what do we expect.

If only the back-room political leaders realised this and started talking principles and issues rather than sound bites, they might get somewhere.....

The public is increasingly sceptical of a political elite who can earn £60,000 a year yet afford £1,000,000 homes.... The figures dont add up....

I think there should be a none of the above option too - but only in the context of compulsory voting. Millions have given up their lives in teh name of democracy - I can't understand why somebody with the vote should choose not to use it.

No political party or candidate will meet your ideal requirements. Even as somebody who advises Conservative MPs, there are certain Conservative policies I strongly disagree with. However, there must be a Party or individual whose policies or ethos have greater resonance with you than others? To me it is all about basic values. Conservative = small government, low bureaucracy, non-interventionist, rewarding people who work hard and take risks. That does it for me.

Vicious circle though isn't it.. if the parties felt that they actually had to appeal to the majority, rather than pitching at target minority groups to win enough votes for an election victory, then their policies would have to be a lot more down to earth. As it is they just have to promise that everyone who reads the sun and claims benefit will get an extra 50p a week for Stella and they're in.*
