Paxman really let himself down here didnt he? I cant stand Galloway, but he was absolutely correct to ignore such a stupid leading question, and how nice to see someone give Paxman a bloody nose.

I would be soooo angry if my only value as a politician was the colour of my skin... fuming! Paxman can ask the very right questions at times, but at other times he becomes the demagogue himself (guess we need someone to wind up the politicians).

Yeah Galloway is an opportunist and a PITA but he got the better of Paxman last night ... he has no basic manners and has a head the size of the studio.
Paxman was just awful all night, as bad as Clarkson was on Question Time ... just said nothing really and tried to rile people from the off and interrupt them ... as Paxman does.
May be OK on Newsnight but on this show he wasn't the biggest draw and couldn't quite undertand his position on the show ...

If Paxo had listened to Galloway's victory speech - which he can't have missed as the Beeb covered it in full - he would have heard very magnanimous words to the defeated sitting Labour MP. Paxo just kept asking him over again, Galloway said he couldn't believe that PAxo wasn't congratulating him on the magnificent victory he'd only just secured a few minutes ago. More from Paxo abiout comments from Galloway (including something like 'there have been many with blacker faces than her killed in Iraq' - a comment about the defeated minority ethnic official Labour Party candidate) etc etc.
Paxo was getting wound up at this point and Galloway said if he asked the question again he had other interviewers waiting to see him and he'd be off. In reply ish Paxo offered up quotes from a New Labour MP Galloway claimed to have never heard of - and when pushed by Paxo, replied that New Labour backbenchers all blend together and are a supine lot
He had heard of Banks though and after appearing to be about to leave the itnerview they somehow changed tack slightly and it continued in equally mauvais humeur. Paxo was asked again why he hadn't congratulated Galloway and DID so. As it descended into deeper mire Galloway was about to go when Paxo turned his back on him and it went back to the tudio as Galloway was helped to remove his mic.
I'm not a big fan of Gallloway per se but I did enjoy his victory speech and the ding dong with Paxo. The above account is all from memory so apologies for any inaccuracies, no doubt the video watchers will correct me.

Paxman is undoubtedly an intelligent chap, and his old 16-same-questions-at-Howard ploy (whilst partially accidental) was a joy to behold.
Galloway gets no Respect from me - but a helluva lot of people have voted for him, and that's what DEMOCRACY is all about.
At the end of that contest though, it was Paxo with all the stuffing out!

I have no doubt his intense hatred - which I share - of Blair's insistence in getting into bed with Bush over Iraq left him open to smears and denouncement - which he duly received, and duly sued and won. Quite a victory against an establishment bent on liquidating him.
The break-up of his marriage will give the tabloids lots of juicy morsels with which to keep attention on his domestic foibles rather than his policies, but how the hell a marriage is expected to survive the sustained beating he's taken is a mystery to me.
As has been said, whatever our views of his personal life and his politics, the man is indeed a formidable politician and a very powerful speaker - the like of which is rarely seen (heard).

A misjudged blindside from Jeremy - who is very much in danger of becoming a caricature of himself - against posibly the most odious and unscrupulous man in British politics.
Paxman should really have pressed Galloway on whay he had chosed to contest that seat - ie the massive moslem voter base, and how he had manipulated them into voting for him on a one issue campaign.
The moslems of Bethnal Green and Bow have been utterly hoodwinked and used by a devious and scheming man.

This seems to be a consistent theme with the BBC interviewing George Galloway. The interviewers seem to have written him off as a low brow nutter before they've even got to the studio. His opinions may be unacceptable to most but he is undoubtedly a clever man and hugely skilled debater. I don't approve of his ideas but i do respect him for standing by what he believes in. It's the same for nice Mr livingstone. Can't stand his ideas but respect him for having the guts to stand by them despite the wave of animosity from all corners.
