If anybody saw the politics show yesterday you may have seen the footage of her reeling after the vote anouncement on thursday night. She looked like she was having a stroke.
She has now announced she is defecting to the Tories. What a sell out slag. She loses her seat and defects. So much for her Labour principles all she wants is an easy meal ticket. Why does she assume the Tories will have her. The Woman MP's in the Conseratives have a lot more class than her so i dont see why the Tories would need or want her?

It is coming, particularly as Labour is now even more restricted geographically.
I just hope Brown gets in soon, so people have a chance to see fully what Labour is all about before the next election.

Not that many.
Blair - however bad he may be - is all that stands between us, and Old Labour. When Old Labour return, as they will some time this term, Lord I hope the middle classes (the majority, don't forget) remember the bad old days and vote 'em out this time.
I actually think this is a more welcome development.
So far, all defections have been from the Tories to Labour or Labour to the Lib Dems or the Tories to the Lib Dems. As a result, the Lib Dems have always been seen as the White Knight in Shining Armour - the party that politicians think can do no wrong which is far from the truth. I mean, when did you last hear of a politician defecting from the Lib Dems?
This shows that this politician has had enough of gloss and fancies a bit of common sense, recognising perhaps the most moderate challenger in this last election.

That's not a bad plan. This still seems like a good election to have lost.
Whilst it is undoubtedly good that there has been a defection from Labour to the Tories you have to wonder whether she would be so keen to defect had she kept her seat. I don't buy the line she is peddling about President Blairs remote style of leadership causing disaffection (after all, it has taken 8 years and a big foxtrot oscar from the honest burghers of Peeboro for her to realise this) it is transparently the case of a small character who sees the writing on the wall and is desperately trying to cling to the possibility of being an MP again.

Yes, but are they really irrelevant? It doesn't take a genius to work out what kind of spin Labour would put on it - "Sour grapes from a perpetual back-bencher." Her problem is not that labour have moved to the left, rather it is an issue with Blair's style of government, not the same thing at all.

It is all a matter of presentation-I doubt the Tory defectors thought the Tories were 'lurching to the right' but that is how it was presented in the media.
she has just been on news room look east. The interviewer in the studio said it was just sour grapes and she retorted that her family had been in the labour party since 1899 so she was not just a blair babe blah blah blah. She looked like death. They then had to cut her off mid sentance which she was not happy about.

As I thought, it is getting very little coverage in the media wings of the Labour party (the broadcast media)

However, the move has today baffled Tories in the city, and chairman John Peach said: "My first reaction is one of surprise. She said on election night that Peterborough had only been loaned to the Conservatives, and it would soon be back in her hands.
"I think the people of Peterborough have given their verdict."
Mr Jackson, the city's newly- elected Tory MP, said: "Nothing surprises me in politics, but a period of dignified silence from Helen Clark might be very appropriate."
