NEVER! This is brilliant news. We desperately need new fuels, as opposed to electric means of propelling your car.
Why? Think about it. Fuel can be taxed by quantity and use.
Electricity? How would you tax that?
Here's how: by rigging everyone's cars up to a national network of electronic controls for 'road pricing'. Then the Speed Kills lobby would eventually force electronic controls on cars and you'd eventually wind up with your car being a form of public transport
Also, fuel means something burning - ie engine noise!

Science and logic went out the window long ago, according to a top lentilist (resigned). Once they've achieved one irrational objective they dream up something mor extreme and move on. Nonegreen's approach is harsh but fair, for sure.

Precisely - like I say, the anti-car movement isn't rooted in science or common sense, but socialism and control-freakery. The idea of letting people having their own way is anathema to them, and because they're socialists, they're minimalists who can't understand how anyone wants to enjoy the fruits of their labours and want to restrict everyone to the bare minimum.

If it's fun and uses fuel, ban it. Yet, you can have your 3 holidays a year and use more fuel with more sulphur than you use in the rest of the year, that's fine. Sadly it's back to the types in government, idealistic ivory towers t

The stupidity is endemic. The transport select commitee is packed with nutters. Dunwoody is chair and the ex mayor of Manchester who presided of the descent of the city centre into almost total economic meltdown with the advent of the silly trams is her right hand man. Funnily enough the meeting of Jan 26th was televised this afternoon. Various lentil munchers were called as experts to answer questions on the further development of extra extra extra tax on roads like the M6 toll and the Ken robbery scheme. Instead of responses like "Just how much money do you robbing bastards want out of the motorist?" The so called experts who included people from the Institute of directors and the Chamber of commerce were completely compliant with the green slime politicians. The message they must have had from their rank and file will have been if these pillocks dont fix the congestion problem, business will relocate outside the UK. The message they passed on was acceptance of more spending, oops waste sorry, on public transport that no one wants or will ever use for serious transport, while supporting additional financial hits on the motorist. The politicians have not got the message yet. They can tax entry to cities and towns as much as they like and all that will do is close the shops and businesses there and allow them to relocate to greenfield sites. The classic example is the exodus from Manchester city centre shops to the trafford centre. Clear evidence of labour/green (Manchester) idealogy being crushed by conservative (Trafford) adherence to market forces. The anti-car movement will eventually preside over a poverty stricken nation and I hope I am still fit and strong enough to assist in the floggings and public lynchings that must surely follow once the bullshit of global warming is exposed worldwide and it is seen that these nutters took the 4th largest economy on the planet as threw it down the drain for nothing. I hate these bastards with a passion, they just piss me off soooooooo much. 
It gets worse.
The next wave of career politicians have been in constant, cloistered education for the whole of their life. All they have known is idealism. They have never had that 'revalation' one gets when they finally leave education and accept the realities of life. Instead, these people try to change them over everyone's heads. Realism isn't good enough for them - they've been brought up this far being told they can change the world.
Even as a 21-year-old, I see the only hope in the 'ageing population' to bring about some common sense. However, when this population starts dieing off, we're shafted unless a new sense of realism has emerged from our universities.
I remember gatecrashing a Labour house party last year, and some of the opinions from people who WILL be making policies in the future was frankly scary. I have heard such lines as:
"Speed humps damaging cars? That's a good thing"
"The majority of the population is stupid and need dumbing-down for their own good"
"Electoral dictatorship has its advantages"
"Other parties shouldn't be allowed to broadcast on certain issues that the government has already confirmed"
"We must make motoring more difficult and less enjoyable if we are to be 'progressive'"
"Think of the money we could redistribute if we banned motorsport in this country"
"Disposable income is a disgusting thing"
In many ways, my time studying politics and mixing with the so-called 'intelligentsia' has been utterly demoralising.
Mainly because the party was in my house.

The only real problem the Trafford centre has is that the roads leading to it are inadequate. I spent 2 hours gridlocked there on Boxing Day.
In future, provide only meat-based snacks and cheap lager at your parties. A far better class of person will attend

Saab have devloped a 9-3 that runs on 85% bioethanol (the stuff the Nasamax car ran on @ LM a few years back) and 15% petrol. It offers the same level of power and efficiency as petrol but less emmissions. That should stop them haping about the environment and all that cr@p.
I hate to take the wind out of your sails but the yanks are about 5 steps ahead of you.
They've been making cars that drink E85 (85% bioethanol 15% gasoline) for a while now.
And selling E85 in petrol stations too.
Somewhat ironically most of the cars that consume it are SUV's.
Pity we can't get it over here. Its 100 RON plus too which makes Optimax look like water.
