First of all Good morning every one, finally got round to joining the site after reading the forums for the past 6 months or so. Excellent web site, a bit too good really as I keep on having to look at work... anyway.
After some general advice please. Thinking about visiting Milan for a few days with the girlf, anyone been? wwhats the best part of the city to stay in, and how easy is it to get from the airport to the city centre.
Thanks in advance.
Rob
Drove via the outskirts of Milan en route to Garda. Nightmare.
There again, which city doesn't have a traffic problem at some stages of the day?
Just beware. They ARE nutters on the Italian roads. It is NOT a myth. Paint some bright yellow stripes on the Griff and you'll be fine.
P.S: Are you taking the car on a plane?

What a knobhead, I am.

Thanks for the warm replies guys. I am indeed flying down, unfortunately not taking a griff. Wish I was. Quite fancy hiring a car when im over there but I think the girlf would kill me.
Couldn't understand when we were in Berlin why she didn't want to hire a merc and top it out on the autobahn?

From Malpensa there's a train to the city centre (station is next to terminal building). Linate it's bus, taxi or hire car, but only 7 km from city.
I hired an RX8 last September for a few days... great fun... just negotiating the roads and dodging the Italians!!!

Italian drivers are fine if you know what to expect...

Not so bad in Milan as further south...

I went last month. Taxi from Linate was about 15 euros to the centre of Milan.
I can recommend the Hotel Straf, you couldn't get a more central location - right next to duomo, and it's a very nice hotel with lovely staff.

The Grand Hotel Duomo next door is owned by the same people and is much more traditional, has an excellent reputation and the guidebooks love it - expensive though.
I stayed in the brunellesci a few years ago, that was very nice. Food was excellent.

Driving in Italy isn't that bad.
Oh, sorry, i meant to say that it IS that bad. absolute lunacy. Hire a large car and helmets.
Easy to get from Malpensa to the cc - never tried from Linate. lovely city, apart from the single linked Mcdonalds which occupies the entire plaza Duomo
