Some more detail in that. Seems he didn't become a suspect until he disappeared, was just interviewed in door to door and roadlbock questioning.

Bollocks. He was interviewed as he lived in the village and had a blue car. On one of the occasions he was "interviewed" it was a roadblock in the village where everyone who passed was interviewed. He had a beard at the time of the offence and the victim was very clear that the crim was clean shaven. Still glad he's dead?

Did you actually read what I wrote? How does living in a village where a murder was committed and then committing suicide make you a murderer? Do you not imagine the police would have asked questions to pretty much everyone who lives there? Did you notice one of the "interviews" was random? How can you say that it's good that someone who for all we know is completely innocent is now dead and their family is having their grief compounded by having his name dragged through the dirt?

I, em, know someone who, em, happened to pass a house in their car on the night that a girl was murdered in that house. He didn't even live in the same county.
The car wasn't all that distinctive - there were loads of them about at the time. Think "Blue Ford Fiesta" and you get a modern equivalent. Anyhow, somebody had seen it and reported it.
That driver was quizzed by the police for several hours, simply because when they went to ask him (about 4 months later) he couldn't remember where he was on that night. Could you remember exactly where you were at 7:30 on, say, 11 January, if it wasn't a particular function etc?
This "helping with enquiries" was pretty intensive, almost encouraging him to just say yes, go home, and the lawyers could sort it out next day, sort of thing. How easy that would have been.
That was well over 20 years ago.
It would be very easy, in my opinion, for somebody to become so worried about this that, rather than remain under suspicion, they would rather avoid that, and the uninformed "no smoke without fire" speculation that we have seen here, and which spreads like a plague, especially in small communities. Very very easy.
Those who engage in such speculation do themselves no credit. This, unfortunately, appears to include most of the media.
