I seem to have missed the rush on this.

Can anyone explain what is going on?

it's just a load of trial and error bollox isn't it? You can spot what can't go in a particular box, row or column, but you still can't work out a logical rule as to what should go where until you get a long way in and the chices narrow.

No, its not - that's the point. Should be solved through pure logic with no random trial and error stuff. Admittedly very hard with Fiendish ones.

Try one. You'll soon understand the fuss.

Oli.

Can do a fiendish in about an hour. Anyone else? Apparently Carol Vorderman can do one in 19 minutes ...)

The "fiendish" ones are very difficult, particularly after a bottle of red!

Aye, there's many a cry of "BASTARD" as I realise I've got two 6s in a column or something.

Sudoku has been known to silence our office over lunch time.

I take great pleasure in beating the FD to a solution!

absolutely great little puzzles. i have given up on them recently to try and revise for my exams instead. but they are really very good for keeping your mind active.

The whole point is that IS logical.

You're not the sort of person who fills in random letters when you get stuck on the Sun crossword are you?

I take all that back. I have just dug out the prize SuDoku from last Saturday's times - a fiendish, and the first to solve it got free tickets to the Star Wars Premiere.

Around 5 hours later, it remains unfinished. (Waste of time? Yes, but I'm unemployed at the mo ... )
