Forgive what may seem like so bone questions , but I've not had to rent before so it's all new to me.
The main thing I need to know about is the utility bills and how I go about arranging suppliers in my name and all the billing etc . The house has no gas, so that one less headache, but I will need electric, water and a phone line . So what's the deal when I have a moving date as regards to making sure I have water and electric ? I've not had any utility bills in my name before, so have no history. So do I just call any energy supplier and say I want electric from such-and-such a date and is it the same with the water and phone ?

Thanks in advance

The house/flat shouyld already have a supplier, you can ask estate agent or previous occupant who this is. Failing that, phone the local leccy board or BT or whoever and tell them you have just moved in, if they dont supply it they will soon tell you. They usually credit check you these days, but I dont think they set their standards so high like a normal credit check, and it really only matters if you want to pay by direct debit.

It will in all likelyhood already be on, you just call them and get it put in your name, they retroactively bill to that date on your first bill and then chase whoever else i.e. not you for the difference between the move date and the bill prior to that.

Yea.. find the meters and read the numbers, find the suppliers (ask the agency) and call them and inform them of your moving in and give them the readings to start your billing...sorted..

btw, the agency should have done this so you should just wait for them to contact you
