BBC just showed the last episode - this series has been absolutely fascinating. Anyone else watched it?

Basically, it told the history of life on this planet, but in a less 'environmentalist' way than other series.

Most interestingly, in the last episode, it said that the only real differences between the 1% genetic difference between humans and chimps comprises merely the fields of medicine, language and recording information, all advanced, and all based on minute differences between species of apes. To the extent that you could take a baby from the ape/human transitional stage and bring them up as 'normal'. Amazing.

Anyone else watch this series? I found it captivating myself.

I saw this, it was amazing that they put down one of our success reasons for having more mobile thumbs, never thought of it like that before.

I was also quite releived to find out that birth is not actually that bad for animals, and there was me thinking they were being brave.

Silly question though....They said about some explosion and only 1000 people surviving- (didnt catch all of that bit) and that we could all be ancestors from them... so why do we all look so different- I mean chinese, european, africans etc. Our facial structures and skin tone are completely different.

If we all looked the same, it would be confusing.
