Question Time - George Galloway

OK, I know its in Edinburgh.... But George is getting a huge response - lots of support for his views. It does look like there are a few of his planted supporters in the audience though.

Don't like his attitude on the environment though. He's coming out with the usual 'we are destroying our planet' stuff, despite the fact that he's a proud serial owner of Land Rover Series/Defenders.

Don't forget -

Galloway was expelled from the Labour Party not for his 'views on Iraq' but for four specific acts: inciting foreign troops to fight British troops; inciting British troops to disobey orders; threatening to stand against Labour; and supporting a candidate for the Respect 'Coalition' in Preston. On a unanimous vote on all of these charges, he was expelled from the party. The fairness of the procedure was such that he was acquitted on a fifth charge of urging voters in Plymouth not to support Labour.

He should have been expelled for his 'views' on various issues many years earlier. His declared support for the Soviet Union was entirely incompatible with membership of a democratic party, and it is appropriate that he now represents instead Respect, which is an electoral front for the pro-fascist and antisemitic Socialist Workers' Party. But the fact is that his expulsion came only belatedly, and for specific cited reasons, not for his opposition to the Iraq War.

Thats a little Hitler you got running around over there. Don't let one good performance turn into a political movement...

The guy has an agenda, and I trust him no more than Blair. I'm not sure that he was in cahoots with Saddam, but I do think that he has a few shady issues to his name.

One thing totally lacking in American politics is the ability of politicians to actually speak their minds.

I disagree with virtually every policy proponded by Galloway - but I like the fact that he is around to say them.

Joe, what you are missing from your American perspective is that we are fully aware that George Galloway has some rather extreme political views. However, our version of democracy allows for that, and encourages proper debate where even loonies are allowed to make legitimate points now and then. His recent political win allowed a borough to send a clear message to the existing candidate that they disapproved of the government's position on Iraq, not that they wanted the UK to become a marxist state.

Unlike America, we're not so scared of dissenting views - though sadly president Blair is rather keen to move towards the American way of safe, media managed debate.

We're not all poor you know! I'm not happy that I have a 1 issue MP but that's life. It might teach me not to vote for what I beleive in next time!

I believe he said ILLIGAL orders. Nuremburg proved troops shouldnt blindly follow orders.

Not that I agree with GG at all but the legality of the gulf war is questionable at best.
