I'm off to the Algarve in about three weeks  :bounce: :cloud9:

Brilliant, except I have a small dilemma. I was in perfect health (for me) when I took out my holiday insurance. Over the last couple of days my leg has started twinging and I have a feeling one of the rods in there is telling me it's time to come out. It's been there for twenty years with no problems.

So I thought I'll get an appointment at the GP and get things rolling. And that's the problem. If I go to the GP, then they'll probably not cover me for any problems with my leg as they'll say it was pre-existing, even though it was fine when I took out the policy.

Knowing waiting lists, I would rather get on it now, but prudence is telling me to hold off on going to the GP until I get back from my holidays.

What does the PH brain think?

so obvious answer is:

take the insurance, book in at the GP when you get back

weigh up the cost of something going wrong with your leg on holiday and you having to pay mucho euro to put it right and then weigh up whether you're prepared to put up with a three week delay...

Does your leg set the metal detector off at the airport?

It used to years ago, but the detectors have got better these days. My metal work is actually inside the bone canal rather than on the outside, so it's pretty well hidden. They can only detect the end of it these days.

Sounds like I'll just take the holiday and pester the doc when I get back.

hehe ill try...should be nice. Bargain last minute deal...but lets be honest anywhere should be better than Reading.

It was cheap because were going from Birmingham and coming back at east midlands. Just got to get there now!

well a wee update about my jaunt to the algarve,

We stayed in a place called vale carros, which is about a 45 minute drive from faro airport. The holiday cost £126 for 4 nights in a 3 star hotel.

A total snip at the price. The weather was fabulous, the food and drink top notch and very reasonable (think 15 quid including drink for a 3 course meal), and the hotel, - very nice.

However there was a bit of a sting in the tail unfortunatly. The holiday was so cheap because the outward flight went from brummy airport, and the return to east midlands.
So the 3 of us hack it up the m1 onto the m6 to brummy, park up at a white elephant car park (20 quid for 4 days parking), go to the airport and were off.

However, whilst we had a great time out there, noone bothered to check the times for the return flight did they. So Q last nite, got pissed up in the "kiss" night club in town, came back rat arsed at 6am, fell to bed.Got up at 11 thought the flight was going at 3pm and felt very smug with myself. A night on the piss and loads of time to pack and get us to the airport for 3.

Unfortunatly we got there, but the plane did not take off at 3pm - it landed in east midlands ariport at 3pm.

Q one very pissed off princeperch. After a lot of hassle we got a flight to Gatwick for 5.45pm , not bad for 100 euros- but of course it was delayed til 8.30pm wasnt it? so We get into london at 11pm. Rung a mate whilst legging it to baggage who told me if we can get to euston theres the last train to brummy at 20 to midnight. No way we can do it, theres no trains going any where near Hertford, Hertfordshire, or any bloody where except Victoria. So in a moment of madness Princeperch get the victoria express train to victoria, and thinks it lets go and get the car.

So im on the 1.05am National Express bus to birmingham. Eventually get there at 4.30am (bear in mind I have had no sleep at all during this), and got propositioned by an asian brummy whilst I was sitting at the back of the bus to ask him if I wanted to "go back to his?". After declining his kind offer (yes, I think it was intended in that way) I got to the cab rank. Take me to the NCP white elephant car park mate I cry. No problems governer says the brummy. A 15 minute journey later we pull up -"thatll be £25 guv" says the cabbie. Tired and exhausted, Princperch extracts the cash out of his sky rocket, and at the same time realises the national express driver had done me out of a tennor (ticket cost £14, instead of giving him 2 £10's I being the berk I am and having the propensity to everything up, obviously gave him 2 £20's).

If anyone saw a blue mini cooper S driven at wharp speed down the m6 and the m1 on Friday mornig at about 5am that'll have been princperch and co. My mate, who had slept like a baby on the plane, train and coach did the driving. I was shotgun totally sparko. The funny thing is I had to work the next day, today and tomorrow. So if anyone here went to the Herts show in Redbourne and saw someone snoozing quietly in a blue fiat punto for a couple of hours this afternoon please dont call me a lazy bastard. Im not honest!
