I was staying in an hotel last week where there was a conference taking place. It was for people building Nuclear Power Stations.
And I met a chap who designs cooling systems. They use liquid Sodium at 400 degrees to do the primary cooling and the pipes are wrapped in water pipes for the secondary cooling. Of course you don't want the liquids to come into contact because the result would be explosive and the liquid sodium is radioactive.
I'm pretty sure that's what he said but his English wasn't very good.
I asked hi where he learnt English, and he said that he'd learnt it at home, but someone recommended he watched "Friends". And then it struck me, his lilting accent was just like Rachel from Friends.
I asked him where he was from and he said "Persia", which I took to mean "Iraq, but I'm not going to say that". Indeed the reason he was in the hotel bar and not exploring the streets of Seoul was that there were "too many American servicemen around".
The reactor he's building is in Japan. So, (given his limited English) I asked how he communicated with the Japanese engineers. It turns out he does use English but it's difficult because the Japanese don't speak very good English.
So when a reactor fails in Japan in twenty years time it will be purely the fault of the writers of Friends for not using the correct vocabulary for building nuclear reactors.

Simon.

If he'd said Mesopotamia then you could have started sweating!

What you describe sounds very like the Japanese MONJU fast breeder plant, which is Sodium cooled.

Don't worry, they've already had the sodium leak, in 1995.
