Can't see this anywhere else, surprisingly. Unbelievable what these ba:censored:ds will do. They even took teddy bears off kids graves and hung them from the trees.

As much as I agree that who ever did this should be dealt with severely, without knowing who did it I dont think you should be saying it was chavs that did it.

They know who did it, I assume that was breaking news quoted.

And guess what, it was chavs. They've got them on CCTV.

And although they know who they are, there's 'nothing they can do'.

Which means the chavs got away with it.

Nothing is beneath them if they can get away with this

...and the authorities try to get you with an instant fine and points (even jail) for driving faster than a usually pathetically low limit and force you to prove it wasn't you! Angry, me?

Does anyone in authority wonder why respect for law and order is somewhat low?

I think that part of the problem is that the crime is essentially motiveless. It seems perfectly acceptable to give 'because I wanted to' as a reason for committing a crime, so a sufficient punishment that matches the crime is virtually impossible to meter out.

I mean, if you murder or rape someone, the rest of your life is spent in prison. If you steal something, you go to prison and have to pay recompense. If you are violent, you are taken out of society and put into prison. If you defraud, you pay a fine and so on.

Unfortunately, we don't have chain gangs, so how do you punish antisocial behaviour? We need to bring them back. Sorry, but if you detract from society, you have to put it back. Publicly, and in humiliation. I don't give a shit about their 'rights' or 'dignity'.

as awful as this crime was, what is bugging me even more, is that if they are caught, what sort of pathetic punishment are they going to get.??

Crap all probably.

We need to bring back the birch or to use a horse-whip.

Scum like this will only get the message this way.

Taking away their playstations, sticking them in a youth prison, or bunging a tag around their legs will not do anything. Weve tried it for years. It doesnt work, and it clearly doesnt deter.

It works in singapore where this sort of thing doesnt happen there. And you can hardy Singapore backwards,or medieval.

But that makes us as bad as them. A society can be judged on how it treats its criminals, and I don't think that corporal or capital punishment is the answer. Neither do I feel that a stern ticking off and a brief jaunt to Disneyland is the answer either.

Youth detention centres with the proper facilites to reform scumbags into productive citizens is what we need. Sticking criminals into boxes together only increases criminality.

Of course, we seem to be constantly having this debate. Something has to change it seems.

Surely with a name like yours you should be advocating looking for their imps and familiars, and a good ducking when you find them?

our society does nothing, so its shouldnt be suprising that the views that people hold are getting ever more intolerant.

everyone who wants to see public exectuion of law breaking chavs raise your hand.

i suspect the majority of PH just raised their hands. if something was done about the problem in the first place then opinion wouldn't be so far in favour or corporal punishment or this fighting back mentality.

I believe that the stocks are an appropriately humiliating, but otherwise harmless punishment, that fits this type of crime.

There was a show on the box a few weeks ago where they were debating if calling someone a Chav was actually racist. The point that was really astute was that there was no way you could group them. The UK for centuries could be broken into Working, Middle and Upper class where as there are now several generations who have parents have never worked. Their argument was that this had spawned the 'Chavs.' A classless society or even lower class.
Maybe not my opinion but interesting all the same.

Yep. Chav is not about wether you have or have not got money, or where you came from. It is about being banal and crass and proud of it.

Oh wait, no I'm sorry, I forgot, according to that stupid Guardian article I shouldn't say things like that.
