My son has been doing tang soo do, a type of martial arts along with gymnastics.
He is a fit little bugger who regularly does hand stand push ups, press ups, dips etc.
So.....he is a strong un.

I thought he did karate, but apparently tang soo do is a bit different. Anyone know what it's all about.

Made me think a bit when he came into the kitchen and punched me right in the bollox. Christ it hurt. :yikes: :hurl:

That's my boy :D

Maybe giving him chess lessons would be less injurious?

Think its the korean version of JuJitusu... pretty f'in devestating stuff when used properly and makes a v. good counterpoint to Tae-Kwondo

I thought it was a bit ju jitsu ish, but when we enrolled him I thought it was karate I gathered it was something a bit different when the older ones started trying to knock lumps out of each other with sticks....

Ta for the help.

I didn't think there was any ju jitsu in it... just a different style of TKD.

Update...

Ah. It IS TKD (kinda)...

Reading that, and knowing a bit about TKD, they do seem quite similar, having developed fairly recently from an amalgamation of ancient korean martial arts and modern techniques.

TKD is a little older, having been officially recognised in 1955 (stil a young-un in martial arts terms!)

It's still worthwhile mini silverback doing though is it? He isn't missing out by doing this do you think.

I did judo up to first dan, but there are no clubs around here that do judo which is odd. I have never heard of tang soo do. Obviously there are many forms of karate, tkd etc. He seems to have settled so don't really want to move him. I'm no expert so would appreciate the guidance.

If the little fella's happy, then that's all that matters. There are so many different types of martial arts you could drive yourself nuts trying to find 'the right one'

I was lucky, stumbled across TKD, loved it and stuck with it. If I'd been fortunate enough to start young, then I'd have the opportunity to get good at one, then try others.. A lucky position that your son could be in, in a few years.

Sounds like you need to brush up on your Judo, if a child can catch you with a shot to the pills!

True raify, maybe I will get in first next time.

"Hello son, good day in school" - wallop, down he goes

Remember to hide in the freezer for the element of surprise!
