Radiohead back Fiends of the Earth
Discussion
I see Thom Yorke of suicide-merchants Radiohead is backing a bill to put through an 'anti climate change' bill through Parliament.
Just seen them on telly, and their attitude is really infuriating.
This planet has been heating up since the Ice Age. If we didn't have 'global warming' we'd still be in the Ice Age, but because we're so self-important and full of ourselves because we know a fraction of the science behind it, we think somehow, not only that we're responsible for these minute changes in our cushy little climate, but that we can change it at will if we stop driving/working/eating/breathing (but taking buses and farting is OK  ).
When will someone just stand up and admit that we don't know as much as we think we know, and things really aren't as bad as the socialists would like us to think they are?

never listen to the opinions of pop stars on the environment, politics or the economy. They may be good at making music (or selling it), but they have no qualifications to speak on such subjects, just a platform that they abuse.
Pop stars are, on the whole, like teenagers, but with with lots of money and global exposure. They are no more worthy of being listened to than teenagers.
I like Radiohead's music, but I see no reason to listen to their childish ideas about the environment. I like Wagners' music, but I'm sure I would have thought him a complete t
t if I'd ever met him.

Their music is beautiful - poignant, thoughtful, interesting, moving. They may choose to back whatever issue they like - it really doesn't affect how I view their music.
That said, I don't think we (humans as a race) are being as kind to our environment as we could be. However, the person in the street is being asked to bear the burden of change, while in reality if anything should change, it's the Giant Mega Corps (PTY) Ltd, but of course they buy their way out of legal situations and whatever attempts are made to regulate their destruction for profit's sake. That is where the true problem lies - that corporations pretty much do as they please, and it's us common Joes who have to make sacrifices because of their greed and ability to ride roughshod over rules. Some rules are certainly their for protection of private and environmental issues, but of course since they interfere with pure greed, they will be circumnavigated

When the next ice age is here and the ice is a mile thick in some parts of the UK, we can all scoff at the greenies, global warming eh? It will happen.
Sometimes I think that they forget this. It will be different in the next ice age as well, as we evolved into the last one. Can't see many humans alive on this planet after the next one has run it's course.
Anybody like to guess as to when the next one is due? Then that'll be how long we have left.

Is this the same radiohead that flies all over the world so it can make music video's in interesting locations?
wonder how many jumbo jets they have been on. probably more than I or my family will in my entire life! wonder how big their houses are with all their millions and how many fires and boilers they have in them, I suppose they have more than3/4? toilets in them as well just think of all that water they are wasting. wonder if they have bricks in the system.
Funny how its just us mere mortals that have to be careful isnt it.
Not only that I cant listen to one of their songs anymore cos it reminds me of someone! CnutS

It's a marketing ploy, lots of 'em do it. Ask them if cavemen and dinosaurs were wandering about at the same time and, like joe Pubic, they'll say yes. Ask them about the overly rigid parameterisation of vertical heat distribution in flawed computer climate models that predict global warming where satellite measurements show that none exists, and...no, on second thoughts, don't.

Pesty/Bluemonkey,
years ago I was talking to my my brother, who was DJing at the time, about Saint Bono Vox's similar pronouncements, which I broadly agreed with, to which he suggested that perhaps U2 shouldn't tour 10 HGVs around europe if they were that concerned ......
