ID cards on the agenda again

Only had a quick glance at the story this morning, but one fact gelled with me - they are to be voluntary in the first instance - oh yeah - I'll need to change my passport within their timescale - can I get an ordinary passport ? NO -I'll have to have one of the new ones - so where's the voluntary bit come in? I suspect many more of us will be in the same position.
My father-in-law is going to be hit by the shortcomings of the system failings - it has trouble with elderly people, those of a dark skin and those who wear glasses. Poor old chap - he's Indian by birth and a glasses wearing senior citizen. We expect him to be deported sometime in the next 8 years! :rolleyes:
Oh and the cost has now gone up to 93 quid!

LAtes cost, £93 EACH, when asked cost seem to be keeping going up, it will be over a £100 soon won't it, the Officail reply was maybe !!!!

Its not just this category which has problems. When you start to add up the various problem areas together, its actually a large(ish) percentage of the population!

Something like 1 in 100 cant do Iris recognition (regardless of ethnic background). Fingerprints are notorious for dark skined people (and its not one particular group here - its anyone who has dark skin!). And what about the disabled and physically impared? Add all that lot together and you get a pretty big number.... not nice...
