OMG

Don't know what to say - must be a really big shock.

My Mum found herself in a similar situation in a traffic jam once - except it was an old woman in the car in front who collapsed at the wheel. Thankfully it was in a traffic jam or the consequences would have been unthinkable.

Not nice is it!

Watched my Dad have 3 heart attacks over the years (1 at 49, then 2 heart attacks and a double heart bypass at 57!) and i've just been told my doctor to cut down my hours and chill out a bit. (Advice i'm taking very seriously even at 22).

Best wishes to your collegue for a speedy recovery.

For God's sake make sure he goes to the Bristol Royal Infirmary and NOT Weston General. My dad's still there after his heart attack last week with at least a 6 week wait for an angiogram, so we're having to go private. The BRI's waiting list for inpatients is merely days I believe.

Edit to say I wish your collegue a quick recovery

Me too! I was so stressed in my last job (depression, hair loss etc) that my doctor told me to change job for the sake of my long term health.

One of the reasons I was glad to turn my back on corporate life to set up PH. I work longer hours but don't suffer office-nonsense-politics-bollox-conferance-call-stress disorder.

The problem with this is that EVERYONE thinks they could have fitted more stuff in - probably even professional party people like Bez think they could have popped one more pill. It's got to be a balance - in favour of partying obviously!

How about:
I wish I'd worked harder at realising my dreams?

Or:
If I'd worked a bit harder I might have got (insert regret of choice)

Working relentlessly for money without stopping to enjoy it is pointless but the reverse is also true, i.e. it is pointless to stop working if you don't have enough money to enjoy the time you have left for your self.

My dad suffered a fatal heart attack last year from overworking to save his company.
No job, no company, nothing is worth working that hard for.

You see, I could.
But I haven't.
Still very tempting though.

My Dad nearly went the same way and it wasn't his company! (He'd just built it up over 5 years).

My heart felt condolences to you and your family

I was on a management course some years ago, when I was a Director. We all did a stress test, and mine came out that I was "rusting out and in need of some stress to work better".

To which I replied "B******s" or some-such utterance.

I don't do stress, I move jobs.

At my last job, I was getting 3 hours sleep a night due to the accounts department p**ing off my customers. Moved jobs, now have no stress, and get paid over 50% more.

Result.
