Submitted my passport renewal at the local Post Office on Saturday morning. For a fee of £7 they check your application and forward it for you. They promise a turnaround of 10 working days.

My new passport dropped through the letterbox this morning. Liverpool passport office have turned it round in 3 working days.

Is this a record?

This is one area of Government that seemed to work very well for me. Just turned up at a place, queued for a bit handed over some documents and money, less than a week later it was on the doorstep. For some reason I'd been crapping myself that someone getting a passport would take a million years but it was a fairly pleasant process.

Got mine in 45 minutes by going directly to the Passport Office and getting my mate to put it through for me.

I didn't have any urgent need for it, I just told him I would by him a Big Mac if he was quick - didn't think he'd be that quick though.

I wonder if this is why he no longer works there?

You pay the £7 for priority service and guaranteed turn around time. I need my passport to travel on 7th June so I thought it was £7 well spent. If you check and send it yourself there are no guarantess as to when you'll receive it.

I sent off for one for my son, to Liverpool last month.

Didn't bother with the £7 post office thing, came back five days later...........
