Headache, tireness, lack of sleep.

some sleeping tablets can make you drowsy in the morning too. Wouldn't reccommend them unless you have real problems after trying other methods first.
If its the heat the try the douvet cover only, windows open etc and can even have a water spray bottle and spray yourself and the covers.
Also make sure you are well hydrated as this can aggrovate the problem.
Try not to eat anything for 2 hours before you go to bed and get into a routine of relaxing (so no late night work) and then going to bed. Make sure your room is a relaxing area so dont do work in there.
Will probably benefit from cutting out caffeine from you diet, so no tea, coffee, coke, and chocolate if you can bear it!!
Oh and a generally healthy diet with lots of fruit and veg should help perk you up. Plus Marmite has loads of B vitamins if you like that.

In no particular order, a good workout during the day or anyway insure you are physically tired before bed.
I think I read you can't get it in UK but if you can Melatonin (which in the States can be had in any health food store) is a natural hormone that encourages sleep, I use them on occasion (mostly when flying Eastward over the Atlantic!)
I like a glass of wine before bed but of course this can be overdone.

Try taking a cool shower right before bed and put a bucket of ice water right in front of your fan if you can (poor mans A.C./ swamp cooler). Keep your drapes/ blinds closed during the heat of the day to help keep the sun and heat out. BBQ outside instead of using your oven or range.

grim isn't it? So grim in fact, that I just went and bought a portable air conditioner that is now going hammer and tongs in my bedroom
