But what's so bad about taxes? We all know that governments can spend our money better than we can. How else are supposed to reach our goal of communism? Errr...
"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism." -Nikita Khrushchev
At any rate... my question is: Why doesn't the BBC try to make money through advertising and such like media outlets in the free world?

This is quite old news that appears to have finally been put in writing.
It won't work, it can't work - so don't worry!
That is true we had this in the late 80's early 90's when they were trying to class Compaqs etc as TV's and not computers.
In other words challanging the import dutys ruling on what it is. Ie is it a TV with a computer attached or a computer with a TV in it. Dont worry about it. Worry more about the recycling of old equipment "TAX" and expect computers to be lining the streets and hedges any day now, or save time and pack your old ex MOTed car before abandoning that as well!!

But can detector vans detect PCs?
Call me thick if you like but I always thought that detector vans were a myth, I mean has anyone ever seen one, I havent. I know a couple of people who dont have TV's had the licencing people call, if they dont have a TV then the detector van could not have detected a TV.
I always assumed that they have a list of all houses and assume that everyone has a TV, therefore if they dont have a licence send the guys round
