Superyachts outside my flat at the moment...

There seem to be some boaty types around PH, so I thought this might be of interest. Currently moored near my flat in Ocean Village, Southampton are:

The two 140ft or so yachts to the right of the gangway are Mari-Cha III (white) and Mari-Cha IV (Grey), the latter of which is apparently the fasted monohull yacht in the world, and has just won the Rolex Transatlantic Challenge. I think they are both owned by the same English bloke!

Also of interest, one of the two Ecover boats moored to their left is the one Mike Golding sailed into third place in the 2004 Vendee Globe.

Certainly beats the gin palaces and corporate hire dingys that fill the rest of the marina! Sadly, none of the boats in the marina are mine :cry:

But to be honest I'd swap it all for a garden and a dog! The owner of the flat (we rent it) recently had a valuation done as he's going through a divorce. The guy that came round to do it took one look at the view whistled as he scrubbed out his guesstimate and upped it a bit
I've no idea why the two Mari-Cha's are visiting, apart from the fact that IV finished a race recently. However the Ecover boats are permanant residents.

Mari-Cha IV crossed the 'virtual' line by the Lizard Lighthouse at 10:05:23* UTC this morning to break Charlie Barr's 100 year old record set on 'Atlantic' back in 1905, and also beat their only rival, Maximus in the process. The time was 9 days, 15 hours, 55 minutes, 23 seconds*, over 60 hours faster than the previous record. It was a great effort in very trying conditions and congrats also must be extended to Maximus for putting up a very tough fight. Comments? Photo courtesy Mari-Cha IV.

Once, both Mari-Cha IV and Velsheda were both out of the water in the same yard and www.sailinganarchy.com posted a picture of them, but I'm unable to find it. Velsheda is a famous J-class boat. It must be around 90 yrs old. It really showed the changes in yacht design.

We had her back in dock not long after that, desipite the 'not much damage' there was a lot of wrok done 
. Still the most impressive sight, it is very hard to get your head around a mast that is nearly 300 feet tall, no mater now many times you see it. A snip at £150+K a week charter though
