Own up then - who voted Labour ??
Discussion
I cannot begin to describe how incandescently ANGRY recent news about road charges from Darling, and the outlook for tax increases by Brown has made me in recent weeks.
I am particularly upset about the governments treatment of the motorist. The badger Darling is saying that we are facing gridlock - yet it is his government which wants to biuld 500,000 - 800,000 houses and more around Cambridge, Essex and Kent - already congested areas, rather than encourage employment in other parts of the country.
So, come on, admit it please.
Who voted for them? Surely, surely, in the name of all that is decent, you wish you had'nt don't you?
When the Orwellian hell of permanent snooping has arrived, would you still vote Labour?
Labour won power although only 22% of people who can vote physically voted for them. The rest either voted for someone else or simply did'nt bother voting at all. Welcome to democracy.
And one other thing : Memorandum to the Conservative party - Get your act together now !!! Muppets !!

But is it really as bad as all that?
When you buy a new car, you pay VAT on it, that hasnt changed for decades, and is nowt to do with current politics.
When you put fuel in the car, again, we have the hell taxed out of us on the fuel, but again nowt to do with an indicidual partys politics, they are all the same, the tories wouldnt be any different.
When you buy anything for the car, or have it serviced, again you pay VAT, but again this hasnt changed for decades.
Toll roads like the M6 are private, and if you want to use it, you pay. I dont have any issues in general with toll roads, they work fine on the continent.
Some towns have intoduced congestion charging, but these are local political initiatives, nowt to do with central government.
I dont buy any of this black box in the car stuff that is the current flavour of the month, it will take many decades for the technology to work, and the civil liberty issues will simply not be resolved, at the moment they are just 'suggestions' accompanied by much media scaremongering. In reality any party that actually thought in depth about it and raised a bill would lose hands down in the house.
The real anti-car stuff from this government is not building enough new roads, and the 'going quickly' tax, and thats about it. All the other stuff that the motorist is 'cash-cowed' on has been around for years, and is not unique to new labour.

Err...yes. I am afraid that it probably is.
The monitoring thing is not about GPS. I suspect that it could be done surprisingly easily using radiotagged number plates and the trafficmaster system.
But even then I am outraged by the fact that government is even contemplating such blatant attacks on personal freedoms.
I am not easily worried about things, but this time I sense something in the wind. In for the 3rd time, this gov is really going to press home some serious control-freakery if they are allowed too.
TBH it doesn't bare thinking about too deeply, you'll only blow a valve

My favourite bit
it makes it really go down well if you are a tax paying member of society supporting a fair percentage of the labour voters
though, is how many seats the parties got and how many people they actaully represent, simply:
Labour
35.2% of the vote with 355 seats
Cons
32.3% of the vote with 197 seats
LD
22.1% of the vote with 62 seats
Best bit is how many votes those seats actually took, not forgetting that the boundaries were moved between this and the last election, some say to ensure they didn't lose
, try this:
To place each of the MP's in parliament it took on average
26,900 votes for party a.
44,500 votes for party b.
96,500 votes for party c.
I'll leave you to work out who a. b. & c. are......

Always the same isnt it, no debate, no facts, just taking the piss and laughing smilies.
For the record I am a Conservative, always have been, always will be.

I didnt vote conservative in the last two, but I am still a conservative. The conservative party no longer exists, they are in the wilderness that Labour was in in the days of Foot, the GLC, CND and the really barking mad loony left. There are threads running about Rifkind and Redwood, it's hardly rocket science is it? The sooner they come out of it, the better.
I am not the sort of chap who will blame his dinner being cold, or the car not starting on the present government. I reckon that this is pretty unique, at least in these forums.
I will not dismiss ideas out of hand because of the source, regardless of the idea. That is why I can listen to and defend policy of all parties, as well as taking the rip. I take it all bit by bit, decide what I think.
It seems I am not allowed to do that though. Everything is wrong if it comes from the other side, I dont subscribe to that.

And the party who doubled the rate (despite promising during the prior election not to make any changes to it), extended the scope and then raised the rate again was?
I voted labour as there was no better alternative. I can also remember how
ed up things were when a large number of tory voters decided to do the same. planetdave said:Thanks mate, I got drawn in
Woz - no point arguing with Jehovahs Witnesses/Conspiracy theorists/the insane/conservative party members
If they are not open to intelligent discourse then sod-em
Not hard when you get dumbassed personal wisecracks and patronising condescending smilies but without anything specific to respond to.
I will stop now.
Thanks Dave.

Toppstuff, For once I think we agree, But!!!
I wonder if the recent road charging announcement is in response to the "knocking down" of the Conservative fuel esculator plan? And will we, in due course go back to it, and everyone will then agree?
I agree also about the houses, but the fact is that under a "market driven economy" that's where the jobs now are. The Government of the day (whoever) is just a passenger now, the "mixed" economy which gave some control, is gone. So the houses will be built where the industry wants workers, just like the last Industrial revolution.
Incidently, no, I didn't vote for them this time, first time in my life not to. There are too many things I don't like, the first being Blair. But we are fools these days if we think that our Governments are in control of this nation and it's future policies.
The real control lies out there: in the cold, capitalist, unfeeling, global world.
