I was going to order some pricey gear with my switch card over the phone. But I got to thinking about the whole security thing - giving a stranger your account details over the phone, effectively. Would you do this?

I don't have a credit card, only the switch. Is it worth me getting a cc just to order these items, so that I get their insurance cover?

Am I being too overly cautious? Any thoughts?....

Not sure how Switch works. Does it not have a separate "card number" that's different to the account number. For example, my Visa debit card has a credit-card style card number that is used for online / phone purchases etc so I never have to give out the actual account number.

Also worth checking with your bank as to what protection they offer against fraudulent purchases.

You could also ask the company if you can pay by PayPal / NoChex etc.

To be honest, given the hundreds of card numbers that companies take over the phone, the odds of someone using yours for dodginess are probably pretty slim.

I asked my bank, natwest. They don't offer any cover at all! Looks like I'll need to get a cc for the insurance cover.
