I've had an Evolution Chronograph for a year now after 'upgrading' from a Tag. It's a great piece of jewellery, but the b***ard thing just doesn't keep the correct time. It's a minute fast within a fortnight.

I wear it all the time, so there shouldn't be an issue with the spring.

Any comments from past or present owners?

If you spent that much on the bloody thing I'd take it back and advise them in the shop that it needs looking at.

Absolutely, I'd have thought that Breitling would be horrified - let them know.

Take it back. Maybe over a few years you might expect to fork out for a service, but not after 1 year.

There's an interesting popup on the breitling website, that basically says "if you haven't bought your watch from a proper dealer, or you bought it off the internet, then your warranty is worthless". Hope yours doesn't fall into those categories.

I bought it from the Importer at the PFA rally last year, he supplys every watch that comes into the uk. All documented and receipted.

One thing, it's ALWAYS done it. In fact in the first few weeks it was worse, then settled down to about a minute a fortnight.

I can't remember the exact tolerances for Chronometers, it is an officially certified chronometer isn't it ?. But +2 to -4 secs perday seems to ring a bell. That would over a fortnight mean a gaining up to 28 secs or losing up to 56 secs. The onwers manual should tell you the tolerances for this watch.

But you are nver going to get a mechanical watch to keep perfect time. There are 86,400 seconds in a day 1,209,600 in a fortnight and yours is gaining 60. Still not a bad effort for a purely mechanical device don't you think ?.

My real Rolex watch keeps worse time than my fake one's. It loses around a minute a month I'd say, whereas the replica versions I have (that cost 80 times less) only lose about 30-40 seconds a month.

Never bothered me really as I don't wear the watch all the time and tend to syncronise the time every month or two.

I 'think' its +/-5secs a day to be certified. Which would imply that your breitling is within tolerance. Having said that, I've got a ltd edition navitimer that keeps very accurate time...about 1 min/month (barely noticeable).

I assume your Tag was an automatic as well - how was that for accuracy?

Its a well known fact that a £2.50 digital watch will keep better time than a £25,000 Rolex.

Still want that Explorer II though.

Sounds within tolerance for a 'certified chronometer' (if it is).
Don't know about Breitling but Rolex watches can be controlled by taking them off at night and laying them crown up, or crown down (can't remember which speeds up the mechanism and which slows it down though)

Thats sounds about right for a mech watch.
Omega seamaster gains a few mins over a month - although not been services for quite a few years. Brietling Emergency is spot on but is a battery.

I have one of the Emergency Breitling’s and it has always kept time. If I were you I would take it to one of the Service Centres and get it checked. Have you had it serviced?

watch fans always compare decent watches to ferraris. I guess the replica 355 based on an MR2 is going to be more reliable too

Needs tweaked i think mate, my late 90s Navitimer gains about 1-2 seconds per day. Lovely watches.

I read somewhere that you can tweak a little depending on how you leave it (assuming you take it off at night). Some geezer tested his and it gained most left face up, slightly less on its side and ran slowest face down.
