Right, have managed to make it into Helsinki only to find that EVERY hotel is booked. Hotels 200kms away are fully booked, just so you get the idea.

I couldn´t get a flight out until tomorrow so I have to rest my head somewhere. I have managed to sneak into the Scandic hotel under the HiltonHonors card to use the internet because "what´s the bloody point in being a member if the hotels don´t help me in times like this". Ha, worked a treat and I get to check in on PH;)

So, how on earth do I get a hotel when there are none? Not accompanied by a pregnant wife or kids so I´ve got very little to make them feel guilty about and make them give me something.

Suggestions please..... I have 23 hours to kill.

And no, I wont be shacking up in a titty bar overnight Mr Nervous before you even type sonny;)

Ha, I would be happy with that. There is a table with chocs, apples, biscuits and mineral water right in front of me for, ahem, guests. That'll do nicely.

Only, the lovely girl on the reception keeps popping in to make sure if I am ok and calling every hotel (trying to get me out of here....never!)

I'd go to that city (can't remember it's name) where it's light for 24 hours a day this time of year. Mind, there can't be much night-time in Helsinki.

Yep, it's light 24 hours a day right now as I found out when I decided to wait until it was dark before going to dinner and then realising it was midnight!

Cheers Tonker,

Good lord these Finnish lasses are bloody alright aren´t they. Had a rather (extremely understated) gifted girl running around for me the last few days. If I was a breast man I would be settling down in Finland right now I'll tell you that for nowt

Seeing if I can get a 5-series and heading to Lahti as the roads there were absolutely begging to be spanked.

Hey Tonkers right - back in the UK now - but noticed that you can get a helicopter to Talin for €69 one way. Plenty of hotels there I am sure. Or alternatively get one of the ferries - sleep on them (avoiding the pissed Finns of course) and take in the sights of the old-town....

Try cornering someone in a hotel - can they be useful?

What???!!

I am sitting in the Scandic Gateway right now and they are telling me there is nothing. I am continuously checking every other hotel online in Helsinki and the girl is calling other on the phone and still....nothing.

I have tried bribing because I can't be bothered to leave the airport but so far it hasn't worked.

Stop trying the internet and ring direct! I am going in September - tried to book last month everything full! I didn't believe it and rang direct - room obtained no problem. The Scandic Grand Marina is huge! What's going on, a massive conference or is the place just full of Russian Mafia?

I don't know what is going on. We called all the hotels near the airport, no joy. Then every hotel we could in Helsinki, nothing.

The people at the hotels don´t know what is going on and say there is never anything this crazy until the international athletics.

I will have a look at this helicopter ride but will have to put my big bastard bags somewhere first.

If you are a Diamond HHonors member you should be able to pester them to sort you out a room. I've had to do this before when left high & dry & Hilton have come through & found me a room somewhere else. Took a lot of "pursueding" though!
