Must admit it made me miss my Les Paul. Although I don't miss the weight of it, used to make my shoulder ache after about an hour!
I always wondered how Page looked so skinny when he spent so long with that Les Paul around his neck.

I'd imagine they're developing something along the lines of the Variax. The Variax is able to "model" different types of guitars and pickup combinations all from the one instrument through clever mathematic magickery or something. We have one here. Its very clever and sounds correct, I just don't find it a particularly enjoyable instrument to play once you get over the "bloody hell, that sounds just like my Les Paul" factor.
Interesting technology though.

Ah, I see. I have a Pod which has a load of setting for a variax on it. I've never played one though. To be honest while I don't mind the fact that my 'amp' is made up of a load of equations on a DSP chip I still like to think that my guitar sounds the way it does because of how its made.

Have to agree with you. I think the Variax comes into its own for sessioning or gigs as you really can effectively have a wide range of guitars with only one to carry around. It even does "exotcs" like sitars and banjos which are all pretty convincing "in the mix".
The acoustic version has quite a cute feature. You can have preset tunings that can be recalled at the press of a button. You could play a song in EADGBE and then instantly go to DADGBD or whatever you desire, just by recalling a setting. Its very, very convincing and I really wanted to buy one as I use "funny" tunings a lot. Problem was, again, it just didn't feel good to play. Same as the electric one I guess - priceless for gigging.
