Cat lovers of the world -

Got to take my two cats to Reading on Sat morning - 2 hour drive. Got some cat boxes and put them in to see how they would react.

Ginger cat didnt really care but my black/white one I couldnt actually get in the box!

Help?!

Mine only goes in her box if held by the scruff and lowered into it. Otherwise its impossible!

Fool!!

You should have lured them in with some food before trying to force them in, but now you've ruined it.

Hmmm......still worth a try I guess.

Wrap him in a towel first to constrain limbs - then be very quick with lid!!

I get the same problem. Little bu66er hears me fetch the box from the shed and hides under the bed.

Leave the box around the house with the door open. Your cat may get used to it being there even. Then pick cat up in another room, and casually walk into the room with the box. Then put cat in box, back end first - cover head if necessay so it doesn't know what's coming!

Cover all exposed flesh with 'claw proof' armour incase this plan doesn't work.

A stategically placed frying pan around the head should calm it down for a few minutes...

Assuming you have cat carriers and not a couple of apple boxes. Here's what I do.. Grab the cat by the scruff, lower hind limbs into the box, start to lower the lid while your arm is still holding the cat inside the box. Once you let go of the scruff push the lid the rest of the way. Clearly don't be too forceful, but a gentle press of the lid will usually get them to move out of the way and allow you to fasten them inside.

Oh an gauntlets can be useful.

Left it too late! You should start by feeding your cat in the box so that they do not fear the concept of it. Next just close the door for a few mins. After the cat gets used to the idea that nothing will happen every time he is contstained then move onto stage
2. Put the cat in the car and just take for short journey and again bring the cat out keep going until the cat is used to going nowhere.
Some cats prefer to see where they are going and others like to be totaly covered up, just see what one yours is.
Oh, lastly ensure all doors and windows are SHUT, just incase he makes a break for it.

My old cat (RIP) used to find the concept of travel very problematic.

Once I let him poke his head out of the top of his box to let him see where he was going.

He didn't go anywhere - just took a good look at the controls around him and then stared out of the windscreen, straining his neck in appreciation of the cool ride he was getting.

For a moment I thought, 'cool - my cat loves cars!'. (That would be awesome - a cat pistonheader - whatever next )

Anyway, I turned out to be wrong. A few seconds later what could only be described as the most rancid, foul odour EVER started emanating from the box, and filling the car with poo fumes beyond any humans wretch control. It was disgusting - a proper little smeary shiner - baked to perfection for this exact moment. The little bu66er had been storing it up for a special occasion.

In a desperate attempt to control the smell, I had to force said cat's head back into the poo-ridden box to shut the lid, so that we could open the window.

The next 4 miles were spent with the windows down, two people hanging their heads out, gasping for air and wretching like there was no tomorrow. Cat was moving around wildly in his box (still on my lap ) smearing crap all into his fur, round the box etc. (I'm telling ya it was not like the normal sort of cat poo which resembembles an elongated conker - this was a real creamy fella).

The piece de resistance was when cat weed. He weed on his mess, provoking a reactive smell that was nearly terminal. Wee soked through paper, forced its way through the cracks in the box and all down my jeans.

Even the vet was shocked at the devastation caused by the time we got there. For me, that wee-on-poo smell will go down as the worst smell in history.

This seems to be a common problem

That is still the funniest thing I have ever written.

As much as I love him, sometimes I wish he was a goldfish.

OMFG, amazing.
