Whlist relaxing in a beer garden last night, we noticed two 18 year olds drinking pints, and buying beer for a kid we recon was 10.
They were all smoking. Not because I set them on fire mind, most likely because drinking and smoking is cool. Especially when you're 10, and can show off your newly acquired tastes in public with your mates.

RS who's life is going nowhere making sure that a 10 year old's isn't either'....... When I was flying out to Crete on when first holiday with the lads, I was sat next to some lad who was about 11 or 12.
Anyway I was having a few beers talking to my mates across from me, when this kid prods me in the back and asks if he can have a drink of my beer. I tell him no and laugh, he then starts talking to his parents in front of us and his dad passes back a cup full of beer for him. This didnt really bother me because my dad use to let me a have a little drink of beer at about the same age.
What made me nearly spit my drink out was when he prodded me again to tell me "I smerk tabs too", and his mother turned around and replied through the gap in the chairs "Here, he dose ya nah, ana cannit stap im"!!!??
While at university me and my flatmates took to keeping the money given to us by local would be drinkers/smokers to buy them their poison of choice.
We felt that this was a way for the local scum to contribute to society (well, our more pressing drinking needs) while learning a shrewd life skill when it comes to trusting people who are bigger and smarter than you

Anyone know precisely what the penalty is for buying alcohol for a minor. IIRC its a pretty severe offence with a penalty to boot.
Vague memories of GSCE Law tell me that giving it to them to be drunk in private isn't an offence unless they are below the age of 5. This was a long time ago and likely to have changed since then, and buying it for them in a pub is likely to be very expensive if you are caught...
I have just popped to pick up a curry, and have a quick beer in the pub next door while I wait. Had to fight my way through a crowd of 14 year old girls with, lets say large sections of their body exposed, tattoos up their arms, smoking and drinking halves of lager whilst the spotty boyfriend shouts at a toddler (theirs I fear) who runs about the car park.

My five and seven year olds have both drank beer... They hated it, just as I suspected 
Reverse psychology... It's the backbone of parenting
I'll let them have a sip now and again if the occasion warrants it, then hopefully when they're older it just won't seem glamorous. My parents did the same and I rarely have alcohol in the house, so it seems to work.

My parenst als orarely kept alchool in the hous, and gave me only ocasionsal some, and i turndsed out ook

Over here, it is considered contributing to the delinquency of a minor and, depending on how young the kid is, child abuse. Also, establishments with licenses to sell alcohol are required to ID everyone. If there's an age limit in your country, then the proprietor of the bar has broken the law buy selling alcohol without verifying the age. If they could lose their liquor license (and hense a good part of the clientele) they would be discouraged from selling to kids.
What burns me up is parents who will give a small amount of alcohol to a BABY to get it to quiet down. I've heard of this being done, though haven't actually seen it in person, but still... nothing like an early start on addiction.
