GOOD BOOKS THAT HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO CRAP FILMS

What really good books have you read that have been turned into really awful films.
First one that sticks in my mind is Stephen Kings The Stand. Outstanding, brilliant book. Pants Film.

Hannibal. I loved the book, but the film was really awful.

Actually I find most books made into films disappointing. Nothing can compare to your own imagination.

Starship Troopers, by Robert Heinlein. Very thought provoking book with a great story line, but what an awful film!!!

They cut out all of that repressed sexual tension
involving Nuns, plus the car chase, from the original
novel. And the 1946 novel was set in Holland, so
all that mountain stuff is a bloody disgrace. Tragic.

Indeed. And if you tie up the legendary tales
of heroic salvation of Flemish lowlands by a young
lad selflessly using digital application to a
dutch earthwork to prevent catastophic flooding, with
the whole Nun thing, you can see why Hollywood
turned pale and went to the Alps.

Salem's Lot - the film - scared the living carp out
of me at the time. Forget the cheesy special effects,
I kept the bedroom window shut for years afterwards.

I haven't read American Psycho but everyone I know that has tells me the film doesn't come close to the book.

The film had me in stitches though. "don't just look at it...EAT IT!"

Read the book 2 or 3 times and when I heard they were making a film of it I thought no way....and I was right.

Yes it was. Red Dragon was a good film too, but the makers changed the whole ending to Hannibal and it was cp

If they had made American Psycho the film very true to the book it would have been unwatchable; just endless descriptions of designer goods people were wearing interspersed with violence so bad it would never have got a certificate for showing in British cinemas. I actually think the interpretation they went for made an entertaining movie, even if it was a long way from the book.
