Good point. I think it's because difficult/skilful things are out of fashion. Far trendier to dump a pile of bricks in a heap that spend years studying anatomy, painting etc.

It's because much contemporary art has little to do with skill, it has to do with personality and ideas.
I am no particular fan of Emin, but some of Hurst's work is clever and thought provoking.
Kurt Wenner s an incredibly skilled artist in his field - far more skilled technically than most artists.
