Magic Eye.........Anyone remember this 90's craze?

I could not see one of them but I am colourblind, perhaps that is why!
Still I recon when people used to say "oh, yeah I can see it now" they were lying!

Yeah - I had some as posters in my student flat.

You have to kind of stare through and de-focus.

Yeah, but I could never get to grips with them owing (I think) to several bouts of surgery I had on my eyeballs as a kid... like I can get them to point in different directions; sometimes when I first wake up one of them comes up like a pop-up headlamp, most disconcerting...

Anyway, I could never read those bloody pictures....

Takes a while to get it some times, but I've seen some excellent ones in my time.

It really isn't difficult - you just have to get your eyes to look at the straight ahead without them both being honed in on a single focusing point - i.e. don't focus on anything.

We all do this naturally when we close our eyes to go to sleep, but some find it impossible to do this with their eyes open. Once you've realised how (just a complete relaxation of your eye muscles) you never forget it and the magic eye puzzels become dead easy.

To practice, Google "stereograms". BTW, Magic Eye puzzles are simply stereograms - they've been around for years. Magic Eye simply commercialised the effect.

Once its blurred the image kind of separates and you need to look at the furthest away bit of the picture then it becomes clear

I trick I was told to get these to 'work' was to show them on a computer screen and then focus on your
reflection. That gets your eyes focused at a point that is as far behind the screen as you are in front of it. Then slowly move your head towards/away from the screen until the distance is right and the two images from the stereogram line up, suddenly you will start to see a three-dimensional shape.

I used to see them 'sunken in' as opposed to protruding from the page. I could only see them if I had a hangover.

Ah, Magic Eye pics. I never could see them for some reason. They just struck me as another pointless-looking thing for '90s yupies to stick in their white, minimalist loft conversions. In my mind they're up there with Tamagotchis, clutch-equipped yo-yos, and trainers with red flashing lights in the soles

Way I learnt to do it is this.Get really close to the picture, until your nose is virtually touching it.It will be blurred but just focus on it for about 10 secs. Then ,slowly pull back without changing your focus to about 8". The picture should slowly appear to you.Other way is to put a sheet of glass over the picture and look at the reflection of your nose until the image appears.

Getting the 'three squares' bit is the key. Then concentrate on the middle, imaginary one and look down. Voila, Saturn

I have never been able to see them probably because i strain my eyes more than most poeple all the time according to the optician. Still it suits me as i don't have to wear glasses, but maybe one day ill burn out my vision and wake up blind

I can never do these bloody things, stare at em' all day long without succes, the Mail' usesd to run one every Sunday I think, anyone could have claimed to see a frog/spaceship, and I wouldent have known any better

I could never see these, and I thought was a conspiracy - until tonight. To those of you still struggling, I recommend getting a little bit lashed. That seems to do the trick.

I agree, as I posted earlier, I found that I could see them much easier the morning after.
