Saw one of these episodes on Men and Motors yesterday.

Ah....very nostalgic.

The locations around London, the telephones, the old cars, the crap clothes! Reminds me of my youth.

No seat belts required and you could park anywhere without a traffic warden slapping a ticket on you as soon as you turned your back.

They were the "good old days"

Only 30 years ago and yet, it seems like a different world.

The Sweeney is fantastic on so many levels. Great motors, no political correctness and a good dose of comedy punch ups. Entertainment doesn't get any better. I believe I've seen every episode made!

Granada Plus used to show them continuously which used to drive MrsU mad. I even have a number on DVD. The films were good too.

Best cop show ever made, by far. Policing before PACE must have been so much fun.

Fantastic

On the 100 great TV cars programme I remember the guy talking about how they filmed the chases. A member of the production crew used to stand at each end of the road and then shout "action" when the road was clear.

Proper car chases on the public highway, ahh those were the days

Its spot the future 'Eastender/Bergerac/The Bill' star

Whereas a lot of familliar faces started off in 'Grange hill' and the like, I find it really fun to look at the actors alongside Thaw & Waterman, and try and place them in later TV, oddly 'Haskins' never made it to my knowledge although he was in nearly every episode.
