Need help with tomtom/infuriated.

Why on earth do the tards that designed tomtom 3 AND Auroroute think it's a good idea to send me through central london at 3pm tomorrow? Why? WHY? What have I done to deserve that??????

Anyway - I need to get from an address in Harrow (HA3) to an address in Bromley (BR1) tomorrow afternoon, and Tomtom refuses to show me ANY other route than through central London.

Is there any way I can force the stupid thing to take me around the bottom of the M25?

Set the route, then just ignore tt3's protests, and drive to the M25. It will recalculate your route. Alternatively, put in something like heathrow, as a stopover, and ignore that.

How do I add a stopover? Sorry, newbie to TomTom, been using the medion software before, which has a 'go via' button nice and obviously placed.

You should be able to draw an "avoid" box over the top of the area you want to avoid - strangly enough.

It will then take this into account when planning its route. When the little calculating route screen comes up it should say "using avoids" above the progress bar.

May not be as silly as it sounds, knowing the M25.

Have you got 'Quickest Route' or 'Shortest Route' set? (Or are there others? I have a Go not TT3 so not sure what is available to you).

So, I just upgraded my GO to v5.20 today and decided to see what some of the new features would give me vis your journey. As I could not secifify the exact start and end I chiose to go from the centre of Harrow to the centre of Bromley.

1st Route, using FASTEST option, gave 1:11 and 24.9 miles but warned of Tolls (Ken Charge I guess).

2nd route, avoiding the tolls, gave 1:11 and 24.1 miles ! Obviously very little in it.

A third route still gave the city centre and 1:13 at 23.6 miles.

Finally I forced it to use some of the M25 (I indicated I wanted to travel via the M25/M3 intesection by picking a random 'travel through' point on the M25) and it took me on a route that actually joined the M25 at that junction and then around to Bromley. (May be quicker the other way but I doubt it?)

That route gave me 1:40 and 71.3 miles.

Any advance on that? If you want to provide the main points of your expected route I will happily report back on what TT5 suggests.

Other than that, just do what I do when I don;t like the route (and there are some errors around in the database) and go the way you want to go. As previously posted, it will re-calc and catch up in time for the final part of the journey.

Cheers for that longQ - I think I'm just going to ignore tomtom for a few miles and turn the sound back on when I get near Bromley.

TomTom 5 looks like it can do a lot closer to what I want - but new engine is currently swallowing funds. Besides, once I have some more power to play with I'll be getting myself lost on purpose as often as possible.

Just had a look, click the drop down menu on the main screen, select itinery, and start entering destinations.

I have a feeling that if I set itenaries and then ignore one TomTom will replan to take me back there.

Tomtom 5 is much better in this respect, it now has the option to avoid areas and it'll ask you if you'd like the quickest,shortest fastest route etc.

Well worth the upgrade fee of around 30 quid.

Or if you hit a jam perhaps.

If you set up your destination as a favourite (simply for speed and ease of use when mobile) just leave the thing switched off until you are closer to your destination. Then start it up and tell it to calc a route to the 'favourite' and take it from there. (Or rather let it take you from there.)

By switched off I really mean with no route planned so you just see where you are all the time.

Bloody puters, My dads satnav found a new junction on the motorway that does not exist, told him to buy a map.

For Bromley you want junction 4 on the M25 then Follow the A21 all the way to Bromley

Saw that it goes through "pratt's bottom" - a place I know well, just didn't make the connection as I haven't been there in years. TomTom can shutup until I get to the town centre Thanks.

The A21 also goes through Locks Bottom, lots of bottoms around there
