Wrong. The cells are kept alive at basal metabolic rate due to the cooling. It's more like cellular hibernation, not preservation. Otherwise, you could grow pickled onions
Mind you, any article containing the words 'boffin' and/or 'zombie' is hardly going to be scientifically accurate, just out for a bit of hype.

I do wonder though about the brain damage issue - the human mind is far more complex than that of a dog, only a very small change could result in a very different personallity coming back.
Although the dogs appear fine - could we really tell if their had been any "mind damage"?

Brilliant, so much science is directed and controlled by drug companies, I reckon that it's pretty boring and missing the awe, essence of wonder and discovery of pure science.

I turned my back on a career in science as there is no scope anymore. I agree that the meds and social scientists reports do read a bit badly, often their research is dodgy BUT it's worth reading more than the something like "Reductive coupling via copper + complexes with thiourea ligands" (which was one of my puppies)...

Few people today know aboutOperation Hundkopf which took place at the Baden-Baden concentration camp.
As World War II began to turn sour for the Germans on the Eastern front in the winter of 1942-43, a small group of SS Physicians instituted Hundkopf in an effort to reinforce dwindling manpower on the home front. The premise, specifically, was to create a race of Überwachen, or "Super Guards" for factories, POW camps, bases, etc., thereby freeing up untold tens of thousands of good soldiers for the front.
The SS doctors' initial attempts to graft the heads of german shepards onto the bodies of Jewish prisoners met with dismal failure. Much to the doctors' dismay, the first Überwachen milled about aimlessly, barking at the wind, humping the doctors' legs, and running about on all fours like a canine instead of upright like a dog-headed human.
Despite some later success, Reichsführer SS Himmler put an end to this sickening project himself, decrying it as a "waste of precious time, resources, and some bloody good guard dogs."
Rumour has it that near the war's end, American troops discovered two living Überwachen, a male and female, at the medical facility in Baden-Baden. They were reportedly shipped hastily to an Army facility in Virginia. The fate of these two specimens remains unknown to this day.
