Does anyone else think that is bizarre...
Bono, who is fighting to eradicate world debt, and raising his profile in the process, must be spending a small forture to get back a pair of trousers and an old hat that his stylist has:

It does seem a bit bizzare, all the cash he's got and these items in total are apparently only worth £3,500. Surely he could just say to her "look we worked together a while ago I know I gave you the stuff but I'd really like it as a memento of that time, how about £3,000 for the lot". Saves an awful lot of legal fees.

I think it's bizarre. He's always been an opinionated man and presumably is just taking a stand against something else he sees as being wrong.
I know he spends a lot of him time "doing a lot of good work for charidy", but does anyone know what percentage of his income he's given to charitable organisations?
As bizarre as it may seem, U2 have always had a policy of not giving out personal items as momentos to any of their staff. Another stylist who worked with them at the same time as this woman, testified that it was unthinkable to even ask U2 for anything of this type, i.e. personal items.
U2 have huge stores of memorabilia. Larry Mullen lives less than a mile from me and is famous for buying his neighbours house and having it sealed and dehumidified for his stuff. Bono apparently has a large store at his house also. The point is that U2 have never wholesale sold off memorabilia as they have never needed to. Hence, anything coming to the market is very valuable. The fact that they make a point about not giving anything away means that anything that does come out will always be followed up on by the bands company as to who owns the property. Plus, the band did't like this woman, so would you let her make a mint from your stuff that she did't actually own anyway?
As far as Bono giving his own money to charity, I'm sure he does. No-one could be that big a hypocryte (sp). Anyway, for live 8, they're looking for the debt to be dropped,not charity to be given. I know someone will come back saying that it's taxpayers money thats being given away, he is a taxpayer too, and a large one at that, so it's his money thats going also.

So all the people who willingly pay money to watch and listen to some of their favourite music don't do so as a result of free will then?

I don't know his individual details but I'd be *very* suprised if he paid the same % as the rest of us! Surely he is offshore for enough of the year to not pay full UK income tax and will have various tax reduction schemes in place. Indeed aren't charitable donations tax deductable? Although 1% of his tax is still probably more than most people here pay!

B) Surprisingly enough, concerts don't earn them alot of money, it's the associated radio royalties, album sales and merchandise sales around the concert that make the money. It's only the concert money that is part of the tax excemption scheme, but in Ireland it works differently. He pays alot of tax.

The vast majority who watch or listen to the concert will do so for the music and only for the music. The egotist pop stars have hijacked this to make a political point. A political point that they are wrong about.

Not really - I know lots of people who don't pay the full tax for the country they 'belong' to.
I'm not an accountant though, so will leave it at that.
Edited to say - aren't irish citizens allowed to bank offshore?
