If you make a bank transfer online, can you get it reversed? I've sent some money to my mate's account (but not the one he wanted it to go to, so some of it's been eaten up by him being over his o/d). The account the money went to is the same hon kong bank that I use, and he wants it to go to the horsey one.

Will the hong kong bank be likely to reverse my payment if I ask them to?

i don't know about particular banks, but Barclays have had to recall several payments from me over the years, it is no problem.

one question, why have you posted on PH about it rather than just ringing the bank and asking them yeay or nay...............some people

i did the same thing recently, went to pay my rent, and ended up paying a charity by mistake. I phoned my bank and they reversed it straight away for me. Just explain it was a mistake.

I doubt it, as once you've have confirmation that the payment has been sent, this is an instruction to the bank to make that payment, which they are now obliged to do.
Unless you have debit authority on that account you can ask for it to be returned, but I'm guessing that's not the case.

They won't do it. They've said that the only way it can be reversed is by him sending it back to me, which he can't as some of it's been eaten. Bugger.

I know you have just phoned your bank and they have said that it can't be reversed but online transfers with the horsey bank that I am with only get transferred the following day. In other words I think you would be able to view your pending payments list and cancel it on the day you made the transfer.
