This one takes some beating...

We have the builders in at the moment, and they have managed to use up 20 of our annual 40 visitor's passes for residents' parking. We told our builders to organise himself and arrange a temporary business parking permit as they'll be around for a few more weeks...

So Brian the Builder sends off his form, enclosing a copy of his insurance document to prove he owns the van.

A nice letter comes back, explaining that his request had been rejected because his insurance documents stipulate that the van is for 'commerical use' and not 'business use'...

I have just had a run in with a council here in nottingham who sent an employers reference back to a lender on plain paper with no signature, confirming merely that 'mr XXXX works here'

I had a final council tax demand for -£0.01p once. Apparently if they didnt pay me the minus 1p within 28 days, they would take me to court and forcibly pay me and court fees

I cannot imagine how anyone could put up with residents parking arrangements. If they ever bring it in on my road there will be blood flowing down the streets. Surely you can get a residents association going and simply refuse to co-operate. Put little stickers in your car window saying no-one is authorised to touch the vehicle or affix stickers. Penalty is death etc. Why do we ever expect local government to ever get anything right when we don't object to everything they do? I give my council hell on a weekly basis. They are sick to death of me and I am on first name terms with many of the officials.

Why's that then? Do the deeds of your house stipulate ownership of the area of road outside your house?

The idea is that you can park outside your own front door (or at least near it), rather than having the street jammed up with non-residents cars. The Nottingham scheme is free, as are extra day permits.

certainly not, but I think that telling people they can or can't park on a residential street in a non commuter area is out of order, same sort of thing as saying you must pay to drive into a city in order to go about your daily business: no I bloody won't

I am no fan of residents' parking - but where we live it is vital. Narrow Victorian streets with parking only one side of the road within 50 yards of the town centre - there is no other choice.

The ratio of residents' cars to spaces is approx 1.5 to 1, there is no room for shoppers!!
