Rugger Buggers

First training session with the local Rugby club next Tuesday... What am I letting myself in for?
I predict either chipped or fractured bones... lots of stud marks, and a grass stain permanently burned into my face. Or am I just being a pussy?
Looking forward to it, not played Rugby since school and pleased someone invited me along. Don't ask the name of the club, I have no idea, just going along with someone.
Any of you lot play?

Hmmm, maybe thats why I play vets rugby these days?
Tackling Sheep? seriously, maybe thats why I got invited... apparantly the clubs a bit light at the moment. Ie; if they play they've never got any subs
I told 'em I can't play... They just gave me a menacing look, and said 'we'll show you son'
little bit worried :gulp:

My friend used to play rugby, told me it was a gentlemans game and to come watch him play. In the game there were 3 fights and 1 person despatched in an ambulance with a dislocated shoulder... gents game indeed!
Gentlemen, with knuckle dusters!
Its the reverse of a Bouncer dressed in an Armani suit

I went for a while as a kid but everyone else was bigger than me. The trainer had half an ear poking out under his sweatband!. I remember being deeply impressed with the way he could eject all manner of objects from both nostrils with one snort
I would try and do some exercise ( running ) before the event unless you allready do. Make sure you do plenty of stretching before and after. And take your own soap for the communial baths
.
Maybe someone else to drive you home as well if they have a bar ( as many clubs do ).

I'm quite fit... I go kickboxing and run a fair bit...
Was going to say i'll be well stretched but that'll only lead to Vixpy or Nerv making a soap in shower comment so i'll remove the temptation

Whatever happens go out and enjoy yourself. As with any club sport you will get out of it what you put into it. I play hockey at a very social level. I'm 40 now and cannot run around as much as I used to - but still get a real buzz out of playing. I think rugby is the same - you will get fitter, you will hurt, but you will get a lot out of it.
Rugby's a great game - assuming you're around the same size (or of much greater skill) than those you're playing with / against. Assuming it's club rugby and you're not seriously good, 17 stones of ineptness normally beats 12 stones of reasonably-skilful over the course of the season.
Shame really, I love the game but simply too light to avoid picking up at least one injury per season, which costs when you're freelance.
And forget the drinking / etc. since if you're considering joining a rugby club, it won't be much different to what you're used to
and if that comment surprises you, then think again
