as you can guess im not happy, decided to catch the train from Bath to bristol with a mate, im 17 and mate 18 and look young so got away with child ticket so didnt think anything of it,walked up to platform and got asked for DOB when they found we were older than 16, so i get given a £20 fine because im under 18, so my mate gets a caution with the "anything you say may be given in evidence" talk. And as a result will get a much bigger fine which hes not happy about, we told them we were not aware of these laws and only got a child ticket because it simply means a cheaper day out, realised after that we didnt get shown any ID from the woman interviewing and wasnt sure who she was, but anyway im not happy and will next time be driving to bristol if this is how people are treated, im not saying we didnt do anything wrong but we would have been ok with losing our child ticket and having to buy an adult,
what do you think about this law??

a)yea i admit we were wrong and if i knew of this law i wouldnt have bought child ticket.
b)not a good idea at all, she phoned up some centre to check parents and addressses

If they had just made you pay the difference to the adult fare then could you honestly say you wouldnt try it on again the next train journey?
Even if the answer is yes govener its a fair cop Ive learned my lesson. most other people who cheat would do so again with lenient treatment like that.

not trying to get sympathy at all, just seeing if anyone else was aware of this law, and yes i do have a job and am not complaining about paying it at all. i just dont see it fair that asking for "return to bristol" and getting given a child ticket and as a result getting fined because the ticket man gave me a child without asking, so therefore i thought, hey i got charged less im not going to say "excuse me i would like to pay more" whereas if i had known it was a serious offence i would have done exactly that, so im not t all trying to say that me using a child ticket was wrong i just dont see it totally fair
and as for me giving them my real DOB i dont see why thats stupid really, i like to be as honest as possible it would have gotten me into more trouble, btw i didnt have to give any DOB until we got found out

Did you ask for a child ticket or lie about your age?
Or did they just sell you a child ticket without you saying a thing?
If the former then you got caught red handed. Tough.
If the latter then they are in the wrong to blame you. I know someone will say you should still have owned up but given BRs habit of selling awaydaysaverweekendexceptonbankholidaysspecialoffertwoforthepriceofoneduringdaylighthoursstandard tickets how the hell are you supposed to know if you get sold the wrong ticket!
Years ago I was rushing to catch a train and asked a guard which platform it was at. He pointed to a carriage and I got on. First Class. It was only when I got off that I realised that my ticket was for second class. I didn't get caught but reckon it was their fault anyway if I had been challenged.
