www.fcmanrique.org/ Manrique's house seems to be quite a cool place, built within a lava bubble. If you don't like arty stuff give it a miss. I haven't been there myself but my parents loved it.
Yes, hire a car, well worth it. If you have a head for heights, try the restaurant on top of the cliffs (in the NW of the island) whose name escapes me. Used to be a gun emplacement years ago.

Just get one of the many coach trip leaflets when you get there to tell you what to visit, The caves which advertise the "white crabs" (help!)is also WELL worth a visit, bit like a "tracy island" experience.
It's ALL volcanic of course, but it changes very much from one place to another. A very strange and fascinating island, topped by Timanfya!

The Papagayo beaches near Playa Blanca are beautiful - and if you have a 4x4 you can explore a bit round the papagayo park.
La Cueva to Los Verdes are good (tunnel caves formed by the tops of lava flows solidifying and the the rest flowing into the sea)
Beautiful view from Mirador del Rio at the northern end.

Excuse my brain fade also as I can't remember the names of any of the places either. I think The canary Islands are getting quieter and Puerto Del Carmen was very quiet when we went last.
However, Lanzarote is a beautiful island to travel around and it's easy to do it in a week. My advice is just drive round the island after getting a map. Heading north and sticking to the coast, you'll see some spectacular natural scenery, there's an amazing white sand beach further up than the Henri Manrique cave thing - Jameos De Los Agua which is well worth a look. The Timanfaya National park in the southern part is excellent and just further on from there is the gren lake thing with the black sand beach and incredible rock formations. I'm useless with names I'm afraid but whatever you do, don't just settle for the beach.
Puerto Caleto is a nice place. Costa Teguise is really picking up as the place to be (and there's a black C5 Corvette there).
We did the same thing with Fuerteventura but there's not much there. Lanzarote can be quite spectacular. There's a great road around the middle of the island (Valley of the Palms or something) that goes up onto some high roads and then snakes back down.

Ceasar Manrique's house is a must as is Lag O Mar in Nazaret. It is a very strange open-air club/restaurant set into the hillside in the style of (if not by the man himself) Manrique. Aparently built in the 70s for Omar Sharif. Last time I was there it was some of the best food I'd eaten on the island.
Avoid CostaTeguise and Puerto Del Carmen.

He means Costa Teguise. LOL. Teguise is a lovely little village in the middle of the island. There is an old fort next to it which is a museum of how South America was populated from the Canary Islands. Fascinating stuff.
Word of warning - don't go into Arrecife - there's nothing there and it's hard to get out again. And don't use the buses, they're rubbish.
