Bose system or something similar

I am looking for a new home cinema system for the new gaff. Ideally I would like small Bose like speakers in the corners of the room (in the ceiling pointing downwards) rather than have cumbersome speakers taking up floor space, which I have at the moment.
At the moment i have only seen that Bose do these speakers, but does anyone know if there are other manufactures that do a similar system (and cheaper too!)?

I've used Bose AM15's for about 5 years and think they are great, although with Bose, people seem to either love them or hate them.

Bose was the only company that i could think of that did the small speakers (that also sounded great for a average price)
Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated.

You could use any speaker you like, so long as the impedance is matched for the amp.

Have you tried looking at Linn? 'Sweetspot' I think their ceiling speakers are called.

Do yourself a favour and forget Bose. It is just marketing. Look at the KEF KHT eggs (1005 or 2005) or the new Tannoys. They are in a different league from Bose.

I've got Bose gear, bought when I was living in my last house which was very small. Decent sound for size was the main criterion and their gear works very well.

Note, I am *not* an 'audiophile' and don't buy the £1000 cable bullshit you sometimes hear. Bose gear certainly pisses off the audiophile crew, but it isn't that bad.

One top tip - the various ranges Bose sell themselves sound very different with the same source... when I bought my stuff they sold two types of satellite speakers, one system sounded a lot more bass heavy than the other, which was fine for the sort of music I wanted to play. Definitely try it out with your usual tunes! (no doubt someone will be along to say that this goes without saying, but I'm mentioning it because the two, similar, Bose speaker systems sounded *completely* different on the same CD)
