Hurricane Dennis Update

So far, our neighbors in Florida and Alabama seem to have fared better this time around. Although the storm took the same path as Ivan and is nearly as strong, for some reason, the damage is not as bad. However, it is not over yet, we shall see. It is going to be a long hurricane season. If this early season is any indication, the next few months could get "biblical".

We, and other states, are preparing to send skilled people from our agency to help as requested. Very careful beach and ecosystem restoration work had just been completed in the Flrida panhandle when this storm struck. Oh well, what can you do, start again.

Good to hear from you. I had forgotten to ask. I'm glad the damage wasn't as bad as Ivan. Maybe it had a faster overall motion (like 15 mph) so it had less time in place to do as much damage, even though the storm winds were 120 mph. When Frances came in our area, it sort of stayed in one place, just churning and raining, so there was a lot of flood, tree, power line damage, even though it wasn't blowing so fast (though not as horrifying as Ivan).

Dennis was more like Charlie from last year. Tightly packed eye and fast moving.

I don't have a report in from my sister, yet as she is still working at the hospital. However, her house is right in Navarre (between Pensacola and Ft Walton) and Navarre got the eye wall. Her electricity is out because she called her home and her answering machine (answer phone) did not pick up.
